21/7/24 - 2/8/24 - Cross Boarder Training Camp in Lyon, France
For two weeks, NWS paddlers and their families headed down to the south of France for a training camp over the summer. The first week was held in Sault Brenaz, espace eau vive,
For the second week, the club headed to St Pierre De Beouf, where we joined forces with the English program resulting in a total of 65 paddlers, who gained coaching from top-class GB athletes Will Coney and Ryan Westley, as well as Jonathan Davies and other coaches who all contributed greatly in progressing paddlers' skills and white water confidence.
In total, there were 20 coached slalom sessions, not including the rafting, playboating and plastic boating, hydrospeeding and team games too. At the end of each week there was a race simulation, which was made as realistic as possible with start times, bibs, "runners" as judges and timers (big thankyou to everyone who helped out!) and prizes. It was great to see parents getting involved on and off the water, too.
All the while, the Paris 2024 Olympics were taking place, which was a great opportunity for paddlers to be inspired by GB athletes Joe Clarke, Kimberly Woods, Mallory Franklin and Adam Burgess compete in the slalom live.
A huge thankyou to everyone who attended for travelling the distance down to Lyon, great paddling from all!
