Absolutely anyone can join North Wales Slalom, from all abilities- whether you've never been in a boat, or already have some experience.
Paddlers progress at their own rate, encouraged by coaches and their peers to be the best they can be.
All paddlers learn technical skills in a flat water environment to give them the skills to progress onto a moving water environment.
How do you get there?
Once you've got the basics down, you can start to paddle on moving water. We have a range of rivers in North Wales and beyond for different confidence levels and abilities, so you can progress at your own pace to more and more technical and faster water.
What is Canoe Slalom?
Canoe slalom is a competitive sport with the aim of navigating a decked canoe (C1, kneeling, 1-bladed paddle) or Kayak (sitting, 2-bladed paddle) (or C2, a two-person canoe) through a course of hanging downstream and upstream gates on river rapids in the fastest time possible. Penalties are given for hitting a gate (2 seconds) or missing a gate (50 seconds).
There are age, gender, and boat class (C1/K1) categories.
